SPEAK FOR THE RIVERS

Every river wants to flow, every river wants to reach the sea.

Every river wants to swell with rain, and carve new ways,

and spill through rocks in foamy spray.

Every river wants to sing, sing to all the wild things on its way -

river songs that tell of melting snows and noisy shoals

and falls from cliffs to pools below.

When a river's stopped from flowing, when there's only ghosts of springs,

we rise up thirsty.

When water's just for rich men's owning, taken from the most in need,

we rise up, rise up, we rise up thirsty.

Thirsty like the stranded salmon. Thirsty like the lakes that vanished.

Thirsty to redeem our anguish that we let it go so long.

Rising up to speak for the thirsty, rising up to speak for the stranded,

rising up to speak for the vanished,

rising up like a river.

Every being wants to flow - you and I and everyone we know.

All of us are children of the waters, when they are troubled,

we are troubled too.

When a river's lost its voice, we can speak for the river,

we can vote for the river, we will fight for the rivers,

we will rise like a river.

Every river wants to flow.

A BLESSING FOR THIS PLACE

Here in the mystery of this place we stand,

here we stand together.

Witnessing the work of our hearts and hands,

here we stand together.

May angels bless this place.

May hearts find rest and grace.

May love surround this place forever.

IRRESISTIBLE MOTION

Like an ocean of irresistible motion,

I say, I say there is a wave making us rise.

Like the water that lifts up seeking the moonlight

I say, I say there is a strength lifting us high.

And the wind on wings in migration, is whispering,

calling us home.

In the dark, we spark a creation, a music all of our own.

Gonna sing it, sing it, joyful sound!

Sing it, sing it, joyful sound!

The earth is moving in a mighty rhythm,

moving, moving, moving,

turning us around.

Like a mountain of irresistible magma,

I say, I say there is a force building inside.

Like the lava that burns its way down the hillside,

I say, I say a woman's voice can't be denied.

We will love, protect our relations,

stay alive, move through our fears.

From the earth comes our inspiration,

rising, lifting us here.

Gonna sing it, sing it, joyful sound!

Sing it, sing it, joyful sound.

The mountains hold us in a joyful sound.

The rivers move us in a joyful sound.

The fire reshapes us in a mighty sound.

The wind will lift us in a mighty sound.

Sing it, sing it, joyful sound!

Sing it, sing it, joyful sound!

The earth is moving in a mighty rhythm.

Make a joyful sound!

DANCE ON THE PORCH ALL DAY

I'm so happy I dance on the porch,

dance on the porch all day.

I'm so happy I dance on the porch,

dance on the porch all day.

A mighty dark cloud has lifted,

a mighty dark cloud has gone away.

A mighty dark cloud has lifted,

a mighty fine gift has come my way.

All day, dance all day,

all day, all day.

All day, dance all day,

all day, all day.

I SAY YES

When I start to feel like I'm helpless,

I go out to a mountain trail

and climb way up in the rocky forest

and find my strength in the pine tree chorus.

And I say yes, as long as my legs carry me.

I say yes, while I can breathe fresh air in me.

I say yes, I'm gonna bless my destiny

and keep on singin' a rising song.

And that works for awhile.

When I start to feel like it's hopeless,

I go down to the wild seashore

and walk along by the foaming breakers

and find new faith by the power of nature.

(Chorus)

And that works for awhile.

When I see no end to injustice,

I come down from the wilderness,

and make a fuss in the marble towers

and raise good people to the seats of power.

(Chorus)

I say yes, I say yes, I say yes.

CARRABELLE FAREWELL

A moonlit night, a candle burning, a trail of chords, the tide returning.

The night full of shorebird cries, a breeze that tastes of the sea.

Here in our hands our two guitars find a song.

How strange to feel such happiness when I'm filled with longing too.

Will my heart break from the sweet ache of loving you?

I want to hold this, this night without another day,

to live, to die, tonight this way.

SING HER TO A PEACEFUL SLEEP

Gentle clouds passing by,

take the pain that binds her.

Soft, cool earth, take the weight.

Little bird peeping softly to the first star,

sing her to a peaceful sleep.

OFTEN AFTER A WALK, I REMEMBER

Often after a walk, I remember,

what I remember most

are the times I stopped,

when I stopped,

and sat me down,

and sat me down,

and looked around,

and looked around.

SPLASH

Out in Arizona, we follow a stream

in a canyon so deep there's no sky.

Narrow walls fall in waves, in all colors, in all shades.

Arizona's gettin' hotter, the stream soon be dry.

Splash your feet in the water.

Splash your hands in the water.

Splash your body in the water.

Play in the water.

Rosie built her beach house high in the dunes

where the turtles and plovers make nests.

Ocean rise brings the waves a little closer every day.

Where will they find shelter when no shoreline's left?

(Chorus)

We come from the water, all of us on earth,

falling from the stars to the sea.

We will float, we will wade till only diatoms remain

to splash in the water, to follow the streams.

(Chorus)

ORIBASU

Oribasu mama sama,

oribasu mama.

Oribasuma, masama.

Oribasu mama.

Sumala sala, sumala su.

Sumala sala, sumala su.

Sumasu, sumala su.

Suma sumala su.

Oribasu.

Mama, oribasu.

Masu, sumala su.

Oribasu, mama.

TAKE HEART, TAKE PART

Participation is gonna save the human race,

save us, save us.

Participation is gonna save the human race,

save us, save us.

Something you know how to do can

save us, save us.

Something only you can do can

save us. save us.

Something big or small can

save us, save us.

When we get involved it's gonna

save us, save us.

When we get involved it's gonna

save us, save us.

We can stay involved, stay involved.

Participation is gonna save the human race.

Take heart, take part.

EARTHLY ORPHANS

Here we are, an experimental species

circling round an indifferent star,

with no celestial guide explaining

why we're here or who we are.

What can earthly orphans do

but love one another?

Love one another,

love one another.

THE CIRCLE THAT HOLDS ME

Alone in a sea of smiling faces.

Alone, never seeing what my place is.

Streams flow to rivers, rivers to oceans.

Oceans make raindrops that fall on the streams.

The circle that holds me, I am holding

the circle that holds me, I am holding.

NOW IS

I am here, and the ground is under my feet.

The sun and stars are holding in the sky.

And Now is a prayer unfolding

with no beginning and no ending.
